Call for Papers: Strand for K&Q16
CfP for Themed Strand on The Queen’s Resources in War & Conquest,
jointly organised by The Queen’s Resources Network and Monarchy & Money
This panel builds on these studies, and focuses on ruling women in monarchies who were called upon to finance wars & conquests, but who also had to rule their realms, often as regents, and were affected by financial and economic hardship due to these wars, in particular when war destructions were in their own realms.
We are interested in papers discussing ruling women in monarchies - be they empresses, queens, maharanis, dowagers, consorts, or regnants -, and the financial and economic aspects of wars & conquests. Papers may discuss the financial support of ruling women to warfare, their involvement in logistics, financial arrangements to pay ransom for prisoners of war, spending on religious or cultural war support, the dealing with loss of income through war destruction or conquest, the impact of war and conflict on queenly landholding, queens as profiteurs of war, as military enterprisers, or as (economic) victims of warfare.
Please send in your proposals (title, CV 100-150 words, abstract 200-250 words, if you’re planning to present in-person or remote) until 31 December to cathleen.sarti@csarti.net.
